Happy Wednesday!
The month of February has flown by and the count down to the end of Term 2 has begun!
In Math, we worked in randomized groups of three and rotated through different Math centres, each with a different activity involving the order of operations (PEDMAS). We were fortunate to have Mme Page with us during Math today, too and she was able to help guide us through some of the stations with the trickier 'thinking' questions. We were only able to rotate through 5 of the 8 stations today, so will be finishing off the remaining three stations tomorrow morning.
In Français, after our 10 minutes of daily reading time (today we were reading with a partner and were happy to welcome Mme Galka to our classroom!), we watched the NFB video of the story "Le chandail de hockey."
We have been working with this text over the last 2 weeks and were happy to see it 'come to life!' After watching the movie, we worked to answer a set of questions, being sure to write our answers in complete sentences (using part of the question in our answer) and also making sure to include proper capitalization and punctuation.
At the end of the morning, we took time to review the outline for our open-book Science assessment coming up on Friday. Mme Careen reminded us to review our notes/handouts in our binders to ensure we have everything we need for Friday, as we CANNOT share our pages with our friends during the assessment. Anyone wanting to review/double-check their Science info before Friday is welcome to do so tomorrow (Thursday) at 12:15.

100 Day!
Today we celebrated the 100th day of school!
Congratulations to everyone on being 100 days smarter! :)
To celebrate, we started with an "Aimerais-tu" tournament. There were some pretty close votes, but in the end, we would rather have 100 friends!
We then did an "Amazing Race" type challenge with different Math questions. Many of us got stuck on Question #2, but once we got passed that one, we sailed all the way to the finish!
Once we completed all 9 questions, we took a selfie and used the AgingBooth app to make ourselves look old.
It IS the 100th day of school after all...
To finish off the morning, we did "Le défi de 100 secondes." How many push-ups and chair sits can you do in 100 seconds? How many times can you print your name or hop on one foot? After estimating our totals, we put ourselves to the test to see if our predictions were correct!
Check us out HERE, HERE and HERE.
Celebrating the 100th day of school is A LOT of work!
Félicitations to everyone for making the morning so fun!
Looking forward to 100 more great days of learning! :)

Order of Operations
Put your thinking caps on and solve these expressions:
1. 2 + 5 x 3
2. 10 - 3 x 3
3. 3 x 8 - 7 x 2
4. 9 + 9 ➗ 3
2. 10 - 3 x 3
3. 3 x 8 - 7 x 2
4. 9 + 9 ➗ 3
Did you get the following answers?
1. 17 2. 1 3. 10 4. 12
1. 17 2. 1 3. 10 4. 12
These same questions sure had us thinking earlier this week!
To help us all arrive at the same answer, we've added a new skill to our Math arsenal: PEDMAS!
The acronym PEDMAS helps us remember the order of operations
when we are evaluating a Math expression or equation.
Today in class we practiced our skills by working in groups at the white boards.
Using four 4s, we used the order of operations to create equations that would equal each number from 0 to 10.
For example:
For example:
0 = 4 - 4 + 4 - 4
1 = 4 + 4 ➗ 4 - 4
and so on...
We sure had to think hard. This is not as easy as it sounds!

Happy Friday!
It was SO great to see so many Knights dressed up in Canada colours and Canada gear! Go Canada Go!
This morning we completed our Math assessment, worked on our math art projects and tackled the "Rectangle question" one more time. We also tried our hand at solving different Math equations that involved pictures (such as fruit, dinosaurs and insects) instead of numbers. We also had a visit from Mme Page, one of our division's numeracy specialists, who challenged us with different mental math questions at the end of class! Our Math brains were working HARD this morning!
In Français, we took some time to read and in Science we had our last work period for our
arthropod research activity.
We worked hard and wrapped up different tasks this week and are now ready to move on to new learning adventures starting Monday!
Take some time to read and to cheer on Team Canada this weekend!
Have a good one! :)

And, a big congratulations to both Savannah and Tommy who each found a solution to our "Rectangle Math" question. There are 2 possible solutions to the question, with one of the sums being 22. (Hint, hint!)

Math Challenge
Hello friends of learning!
Today in Math we tackled one tough question!
"Frame the Cards"
Arrange ten playing cards (ace to ten) in a rectangle with three cards on two sides and four cards on two sides such that the sum of the cards on every side add up to the same total.
Working in randomized groups at the white boards we tried combination after combination of numbers to see if we could find the solution. Many of us got close, but no one was able to find the sum.
The solution for this question remain a mystery for now! Keep on working on it!
Hints for the solution will be shared over the next couple of days before the answer is revealed on Friday!
Good luck!

Happy Monday!
Hello 208 friends!
We had a great morning of learning today!
We started our day with Français and were happy to have Mme Galka with us!
Today, for our daily reading time, we read with our table partner.
Next, in our mini-journals, we were asked to share (write) our opinion about "Whether boys and girls should have separate classes at school." Before our writing time began, we brain-stormed sentence starters that would help us clearly structure our opinion in our writing response.
In Mathé, we continue to review different mental math strategies and are finishing up our work on
"les transformations géométriques."
In Science, we used the iPads to continue our research on two different arthropods. For our research, we can choose any two arthropods we would like and then, using a list of websites given to us by Mme Careen, we need to find the answers to a set of characteristics, including : life cycle, diet, movement and habitat. We also need to include an explanation of why our chosen example is an arthropod.
