Hello, friends of learning!
You are in a group of 5 people. Each person in the group exchanges 1 handshake with the other group members. How many handshakes are exchanged within the group?
Hmmm. 25? Nope. 20? Think again.
The above question was our "Thinking Classroom" question of the day. Working in randomized groups, we solved this question for groups of 5, 10 and 20 people. We were also challenged to solve the question for a group of 100 people. We agreed that our original strategies of drawing diagrams and adding each handshake would get us to the answer, but would take us a LONG time, so we were exploring to find a Math shortcut that would get us to the answer more efficiently. What did our groups come up with? Please ask me! :)
In Science, we continued our investigation of invertebrates, watching a series of short videos to learn about each group's unique characteristics. We learned that invertebrates make up 95% of all living things and that Arthropods is the biggest class of the invertebrate phylum. We will be researching 4 of the many invertebrate classes in the coming weeks.
In Français, we have moved into the revision and editing phase of our "les résolutions" sentences. After reviewing our work, we will meet with 3 classmates to review our sentences before doing the final editing step on the iPad. We will use an online dictionary and the site "bonpatron.com" to ensure our writing is error-free and ready to publish. Our goal is to have our resolutions ready for publishing by the end of class tomorrow. Wish us luck... and be sure to ask me what resolutions I am hoping to accomplish this year!
