Hello Room 208 families!
We've made it through our first week back and are off to a great start with our learning!
In Math today, we continued learning about "les transformations géométriques." After watching a fun BrainPop video about transformations, we practiced drawing translations, rotations and reflections of different letters of the alphabet. A translation is when an object is moved along the x, y or z axis. A rotation is when an object is rotated around a centre point (pivot). We can express a rotation as a fraction or in degrees. A reflection is when the object is flipped. An object can be reflected horizontally, vertically or diagonally, resulting in a image the appears backwards or upside-down. We are currently working on these three transformations in isolation, but will combine the movements early next week.
In Français, we are very close to publishing our sentences about our New Year's resolutions. Today, after reviewing our sentence with three friends, we used an iPad to access the website bonpatron.com to do a final check of our writing. The site will identify parts of our writing that need to be checked or modified, and it will help us by giving us options of how to make our writing better. Once we have done this final check, we will write a good copy of our resolution to be published in our classroom for our classmates to read.
In Science, we started a small research activity about: les éponges (sponges), les vers (worms) and les mollusques (molluscs), three of the classes in the invertebrate phylum. Using a variety of articles provided by Mme Careen, we will read and pull important information about each group and add it to our research chart. We are responsible for researching two different examples of each class. This is the first step in this activity. The second part will be explained to us in class next week.
